After configuring the overtime policy settings and enabling the "Time Off in Lieu" (TOIL) option (click here to read the article), the next step is for the employee to choose the compensation method.
When submitting an overtime request, the employee can choose the preferred compensation type:
- Paid Overtime
- Time Off in Lieu (TOIL)
Important Notes:
- If Time Off in Lieu is selected and the overtime date is in the future, the leave balance will be added only after the overtime is actually completed.
- If a past date is selected for the overtime, a note will appear stating that the validity period is calculated from the overtime date, not from the request approval date.
Review and Approval of Preference by Management
The system supervisor can review and either approve or modify the request based on business needs. The supervisor also has the right to override the request and not adhere to the defined policy—whether by approving or modifying it.
If the Time Off in Lieu option is approved, the validated overtime hours will be added to the employee’s TOIL balance. Both the employee and management can track this balance through the system.
The earned TOIL balance will automatically expire if not used within 60 days from the date it was earned (in accordance with labor law).
Using the TOIL Balance When Requesting Leave
The employee can use their TOIL balance when submitting an annual leave request. If the option is enabled, the system will automatically prioritize deduction from the TOIL balance, as shown in the image.
From the leave balances, the day will appear as a reserved balance until the leave is taken.
